Searching online
Tools for searching the web are called search engines. You may be used to using the Google search engine to find information because it is so well-known. There are actually many different search engines you can use. We recommend SafeSearch because it is designed for children and makes sure what you find is safe to view.
How do I search?
Click on the 'Get searching here' button below and go to the SafeSearch site. Type in the word or words you want to search for, click the 'search' button and wait.
Hint: Don't type in a whole question or statement into the search box, like "timeline of the life of Christopher Columbus".
Keep it short - use 2 or 3 important words! I would probably type "Columbus" and "timeline" because all the other words aren't important.
If you don't find what you are looking for, try changing your search words.

How do I know it is a good website?
First of all, you should use the sites provided on this site to start your research. They will give you an idea of what a good website looks and feels like. Once you have explored those sites, you can start searching here.
When you are searching for a website with great information for your assignment, you might want to use Kathy Shrock's 5W's tool to evaluate how good it actually is.
